Held annually, The Gauteng Motor Show is one of South Africa's largest Motor Shows. Hosted by TopCar, The Gauteng Motor Show is held at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria West.
The entrance fee was a mild 80 Rand per Adult. Parking was packed as in any big event and After the 500 meter walk into the actual event. We where quick to have a go in the go karting track. A common Arrive and Drive. The karts where small and horribly looked after, probably used just for events. The karting track itself is definitely one of the best in South Africa. Its long and wide and contains mostly sweeping corners and even an under bridge swerve. After speaking to the operating crew around their. I quickly learned that the track was recently re-graveled, creating a mild problem to faster Karts.
After our 8 minutes of psychotic racing skill, we headed off into the displays. Their where many nice cars, which Is expected from a Car show. We soon starting feeling like the show was masked by little economic cars, the ratio was too high. For every cool car their was at least 3 where uncool cars. From hyundai and honda's that just felt miss placed.
Like all Motor shows, the stand with the most people gathered is the one with the most beautiful women. Obviously wearing little clothes advertising some brand on their clothes, just no one ever gets to read them in distraction of, well. Everything else.
A nice touch to the event was the Drifting competition nearing the end of the day. Featuring professional drifters and cars. The track was closed and all drifting took place around a double edged corner. Surrounded by stands, that where packed by drift enthusiasts wanting to see some action. The qualifying went under way and despite the occasional spin out, it turned out to rather be an exiting show case of skill and burning rubber.
Despite the event closing at 5pm and the small amount of space they had. It felt rather like a big event. Good capitalization of space and well positioning saw a rather memorable event.
