The RS badge was born for/in rally racing, therefore
standing for Rallye Sport. Now the car manufacture to carry that badge since it
was founded in 1963 is Ford. The Ford TeamRS is Ford Motor Company’s European
performance car and motorsport division for Ford Racing.
In the early 60’s the RS badge was only seen in rally cars,
up until customers demanded Ford to put it on road cars, making it a huge, expensive
gamble for this car manufacture. And with some people looking at it as a way to
promote the brand, the gamble paid off.
The MK1 RS2000 Escort was the first to carry the badge. Now
40 years later we see the rebirth in the form of a Focus. Inspired by the World
Rally Championship Focus RS WRC, it’s no wonder it looks like the brut it is
especially if you ordered yours in Ultimate Green (or Hulk green if you prefer),
containing spoilers and diffusers like a rally stage refugee.
Never the less it gives it Character. And that is where this
car shines. Containing the 2.5L RS duratec with 305hp/ 224kw, 440Nm of torque
was unheard of in a Front wheel drive car. So to make it possible, Ford engineers
came up with a Quaife helical limited slip differential and RevoKnucle
suspension.
Helping Torque-steer become a minimal thing. And giving it
the ability to out handle some Four wheel Drive cars. Possibly as metal as a
hot hatch can be for the time being and Its in your face as you could ask it to
be, backing up the bark with a nasty bite.
