To get the normal stuff out the way, the new 3 series will start off with 3 rangers to choose from a 320d, 328i and a 335i as well as a 320i that will be added later in the year. The 320d uses a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder that has a healthy 135 kW and 380 Nm that does only 5,0 L/100 km. The 328i has a 2,0 liter 4 cylinder twin-turbo. That has a 180 kW and 350 Nm that does 6,4 L/100 km but more impressively it does the 100 km dash in 6,1 seconds so it has enough power to enjoy the ride. The range topping 335i uses the straight 6 turbo petrol from the old model and has a very strong 225 kW/ 400 Nm and a reasonable 186g/km of co2 dust.
But what's truly impressive about this new 3 series is not the power or speed but the luxury features that make the flagship 7 series worried, you can have almost every feature that BMW has to offer at and extra price (standards have not been released yet)! If you want lane assist its yours, if you want driving experience control or heads up display its done, they even have a new keyless entry and start(Comfort Access) that allows you to open the boot by moving your foot under the rear bumper in case you have beer or groceries. The list goes on and on but be careful to spec the car as you like could be a costly affair.
The new shape is the most sportiest shape BMW has to offer on the sedan range, and the interior is not only much larger and much more comfy. It has a lot of nicely placed soft touch leathers and conveniently positioned buttons and switches to reach by both the driver and passenger. The new BMW 3 series is a definite challenge to the C-Class and in some ways maybe better, especially in the eyes off BMW purists. Only time will tell if this perfect blend of comfort and sportyness will be able to put BMW back on top of the bottom sedan segment or just another passing phase.
