Created to compete against the CLS and the A7 the new BMW 6 Series CG is set to tip the scales in BMW's favour. Built where it's 6 Series sibling is built (Dingolfing, Germany) it is 111 mm longer, 34 mm wider than the 5 Series and has a four-plus one seating layout for a 5th passenger. The design is more sleek than the 5 Series, but still more aggressive than the 7 Series with flared nostrils and a wide body it sure is going to be a good looking car.
The car which is set to be released at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show has been filled with all of BMW's latest technology, this includes the latest head-up display, lane-departure warning, surround view camera and a park-assistant system. There will also be a killer bang Et Olufsen sound system offered. There will be 2 rangers hitting our shores - first the 640 i and 650 i. There is also an M6 version rumored to be in development which will use the same drive train as the new M5. The 640 i is powered by a turbo-charged in line 6 cylinder engine that develops 225 Kw, good enough for a 0-100 sprint time of 5.4 seconds. The 650 i makes use of the company's twin-turbo charged 4.4 liter V8, it produces 330 Kw which shoots it to 100 km per hour in 4.6 seconds.
The BMW 6 CG has an array of efficiency technology which includes an integrated driving dynamics systems with an Eco-Pro characteristics and regulated ancillaries as well as an engine start/stop as standard. It is an aluminium double wishbone/multilink suspension set up that is super light weight. You can also have an optional active roll stabilization system that works with the standard dynamic damper control to stop body rollin corners.
The BMW 6 CG will be officially launched at the Geneva Show on the 6th of March 2012.We will then bring all the confirmed specifications and release date for South Africa, but if you are interested in buying one we expect it to launch second quarter 2012 and to cost around R900,000-00 (640 i) and R1,200,000-00 (650 i).
