The Gran Coupe is a segment not new to us any more. Since the CLS of 2003/2004 we are no longer shocked by all its derivatives (which is basically what they all are). The new BMW 6 series Gran Coupe, on the other hand is a good looking variant of the very popular range and its merge between the large space and tech of the 7 series, as well as the practicality of the 5 series is quite impressive. It is the most complete package of the segment being only 2 centimeters shorter than its bigger brother 740 and with all the features to.
So far the 640i is the only range we have a spec on but soon we expect more info. The 640i uses the 3,0 liter in line 6 cylinder twin turbo, it pumps out 315 Bhp that launches it to 100 km/h in 5,4 seconds. Which is not bad for a car that ways 4300 pounds and more than enough to fill the needs of every day family and commuting needed. The gear box and chassis are absolutely superb and handling is great. The wheels are R 19 inch wrapped in Michelin premium HP run on flats
The interior is a beautiful display of German ergonomic design, there is tons of leather and so much technology that you feel like you are in a airplane cockpit, but well placed though. The car is nothing new or revolutionary, but the way BMW has out everything together makes for an amazing package. This new Gran Coupe (or sportback as it should be known) will defiantly shack things up in the range and possible put BMW a foot ahead. The Germans are constantly looking over their shoulders and watching what's the other company's are doing, so to have something fresh is quite nice. Let's see how it does.
