Sergio Pininfarina
We have all heard of the name Pininfarina on the side of beautifully designed cars. So that name comes from the famous automobile designer Sergio Pininfarina, who passed away on the 3rd of July 2012 aged 85.
S. Pininfarina was born 8 September 1926 in Turin Italy. He studied and graduated in mechanical engineering from the Polythenic University of Turin in 1950. He then began his career in the family business Carrozzeria Pinin Farina which was founded by his father Batista Farina. In 1961 by decree of the Italian president, his family changed their surname from Farina to Pininfarina to match the company. He then took over the company as chairman in 1966 after his father’s death.
Some of his famous projects and car designs were Alfa Romeo 164, Bentley Azure, Ferrari 288 GTO, Ferrari P4/5, Ferrari F40, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, Ferrari Enzo, Fiat 124, Peugeot 406 coupé, Maseratti Gran Turismo.
Another famous automobile name has passed us and will be missed by many as we honour his work.
Rest in peace.
